Nice day 7
Nice day 6
Day trip to Menton, near the Italian border. A spectacular bus ride up and down the mountains following the sea shore. Had a lovely lunch at a restaurant right on the beach. Stopped off in Monaco on the way back to Nice, home of garish capitalism at it’s “best”.
Nice day 5
Nice day 4
Rented bicycles again and went by the port of Nice and up the coast toward Monaco. Very steep terrain, we had to walk part of the way. Trip down the hill was faster. Rode over to the Musée d’art moderne et d’art contemporain again to finish looking at the collections. Dinner at home from the marché.
Nice day 3
Took the bus up to visit 1st Musée Marc Chagall , then Musée Matisse. Had a lovely dinner in what we have come to call the Casbah near our apartment, though it is not Muslim, just a warren of very narrow twisting streets. Our waiter was a charming Bulgarian woman.
Nice day 2
Started the day at the market. Then we rented bicycles on the beach and went to Musée des Beaux-Arts de Nice. Stopped at the gelato shop (they recognize us now). Made a fabulous dinner from our market acquisitions. Off to the clubs now, temps pour faire la fête.
Nice day 1
We are staying near the Place Masséna, in the old part of Nice (Vieux). Lazy day, still tired. Rainy but still beautiful.
Marseille day 2
We spent the last day in Marseille looking around the Port and having a grand time watching the street performers (see clip). Headed for the train station early evening. Tomorrow in Nice.
Marseille – Day 1
We arrived here last night completely beat, having been traveling for over 24 hours straight, 36 without sleep. Woke up late and got started.
Marseille is beautiful and BIG. Went to 2 small art museums, one in an old poor house (La Vieille Charité) and one in Palais Longchamp. Rode the metro and the tram around town when we did not walk. Dinner late, as the custom (wisely) in southern Europe.
