Both feeling a bit under the weather today (Bjørklund’s revenge?), but rebounded well and visited the Oslo Domkirke. There was a massive free concert at the harbor near City Hall that we attended. Must have been 50,000 people there. Very exciting. Pop music, video is of a Reggae bad. Norwegian Reggae, who knew. Afterwards we ducked into a cafe to watch the crowd surge around us.
Arrived by boat, coming up the Oslo fjord in the morning. Quite spectacular. Spent part of the day ( as usual) getting oriented and learning the transport systems. Visited Nobel Peace Center which is quite impressive. Took a harbor tour on a boat that was rigged as a sailboat, passed the hugely impressive Oslo opera. Light dinner and meandering until 11PM, still daylight.
Ok, so I’ve never been to sea on a really big boat before, so I got a little silly and ended up staying up too late. The sun didn’t set until almost midnight, and sun rise was before 4AM. A good time was had by all, but boy am I tired.
Short day. Went to two different places that were both closed. The architectural museum for unknown reasons, and the Church of our Saviour, which was hosting a funeral. Had coffee and pastry by the canal. Packed up, said goodby to Copenhagen and headed for the boat pier.
Today started out sunny but ended up with rain. We went to the National Museum of Denmark first, stopped for lunch and then visited the Christianborg Palace which is also the parliament building and got a guided tour of the public part of the building.
Started the day by going to the National Gallery of Denmark. After a couple of hours dropped by Rosenberg Castle. After a nice dinner went to Black Diamond on our way home. Ended up being a beautiful sunny day. We rode along the canals and enjoyed the people and the sights.
We set aside this day to rent a car and travel the southern Swedish country side. Stopped off in several small towns, visited some seaside resorts, enjoyed the sunshine and beautiful landscape.
first we visited the Tivoli Gardens, a vast amustment park in the middle of downtown Copenhagen. Then we visited an area of Copenhagen called Christiania, which has a long and colorful history. Still a bit worn out by the overseas trip, we called it a night relatively early.
