Oslo day 2

Both feeling a bit under the weather today (Bjørklund’s revenge?), but rebounded well and visited the Oslo Domkirke. There was a massive free concert at the harbor near City Hall that we attended. Must have been 50,000 people there. Very exciting. Pop music, video is of a Reggae bad. Norwegian Reggae, who knew. Afterwards we ducked into a cafe to watch the crowd surge around us.

Arrived by boat, coming up the Oslo fjord in the morning. Quite spectacular. Spent part of the day ( as usual) getting oriented and learning the transport systems. Visited Nobel Peace Center which is quite impressive. Took a harbor tour on a boat that was rigged as a sailboat, passed the hugely impressive Oslo opera. Light dinner and meandering until 11PM, still daylight.

At Sea between Copenhagen and Oslo

Lost at sea, about midnight

Lost at sea, about midnight

Ok, so I’ve never been to sea on a really big boat before, so I got a little silly and ended up staying up too late. The sun didn’t set until almost midnight, and sun rise was before 4AM. A good time was had by all, but boy am I tired.

Short day. Went to two different places that were both closed. The architectural museum for unknown reasons, and the Church of our Saviour, which was hosting a funeral. Had coffee and pastry by the canal. Packed up, said goodby to Copenhagen and headed for the boat pier.

We set aside this day to rent a car and travel the southern Swedish country side. Stopped off in several small towns, visited some seaside resorts, enjoyed the sunshine and beautiful landscape.

first we visited the Tivoli Gardens, a vast amustment park in the middle of downtown Copenhagen. Then we visited an area of Copenhagen called Christiania, which has a long and colorful history. Still a bit worn out by the overseas trip, we called it a night relatively early.

We arrived quite late. By the time we settled into the apartment it was 3AM and the sun was coming up.
The next day, getting a late start, went on a boat tour of the canals. Ate lunch on the canal bank amid a lot of Danes sunbathing. Rode bicycles to dinner (Indian food) and then rode all around the city in a light rain until 1AM.
